Opossums

Opossums, or Didelphis virginiana, are North America’s only marsupials. They raise their young in their pouches, much like kangaroos. They look very much like large rats, except their coloring is different. Adult opossums weigh up to 15 pounds, have 50 razor sharp teeth (the most of any mammal), opposable thumbs and amazing immune systems. They are omnivores, meaning that they will eat anything they can get their paws on. They do not live for long in the wild, only up to three years.

Opossums are very temperamental creatures and are known for being extremely mean. They travel for food and only sometimes will establish a nest. They are always very close to humans, as they scavenge trash and prefer buildings as shelter. They prefer to eat meat and rotting carcasses, but will rummage around for whatever they can find. If cornered, they are very slow and will stand their ground, showing their sharp teeth. They’re well-known for playing dead if they feel an imminent threat.

Since they rummage through human property, they run into people and domestic animals quite frequently. It is imperative to avoid contact with an opossum, as they are very territorial and will bite when confronted. Dogs should not be urged to chase or catch one. Beside their vicious nature, opossums can spread fleas and other parasites. They are constantly found in sheds, under decks and even in attics of homes. They’re very opportunistic animals, stealing bird seed, pet food, trash and anything else they can carry.

For these reasons, getting rid of an opossum is imperative. The experienced technicians at Solidified Pest Control are experienced with humanely trapping an opossum and releasing it back into the wild, far away from your home or business. Contact us today!

It went great. No more wasps after 48 hrs. And it took only 15 minutes to apply the treatment. The man that came (I forgot his name but I believe it's a small family business) was very serious and knowledgeable. Also he was the first one to respond and be able to show up after I contacted 4 or 5 different pest exterminators.
