Pest control in the United States is a growing business. As an industry more than 27,000 different businesses operate currently, and this is projected to continue expansion. By 2022 the revenue generated by the pest control services is expected to equal $14.4 Billion U.S. Dollars annually.

Perhaps the best route for property owners and managers to take is a proactive approach to their relationship with their exterminator. Like most things a preventative program will definitely reduce unexpected pest problems while also maintaining a secure barrier to improve the health of a property.

Pest Exterminators Toe The Line

Homeowners and property owners in general will probably have an issue with pests of some type. About 56% of all homeowners report having an ant issue within the past year. In the industry, a full 95% of all professionals report treating apartments and condominiums for bed bugs.

There is a wall that should be maintained if the goal is to optimize the barrier between pests and a property. The reason for this is to extend the life and health of a building or property with minimum expenditures. Over 20% of homeowners surveyed said termites were their main pest concern.

A proactive relationship with the local mice exterminator is conducive to having a decreased risk of mice, right? The National Pest Management Association estimates that without the Pest Control Industry there would be a massive food shortage. Just consider, the amount of food destroyed each year by rodents is enough to feed over 200 million people, and without the Pest Control Industry 50% of all the food supply would be lost.

As a member of the animal kingdom the flea is pretty darn impressive athletically. It is statistically one of the most impressive jumpers throughout the entire animal kingdom. With the unique ability to jump about 200 times their own body length, a flea can jump vertically up to seven inches or horizontally up to 13 inches!

It seems likely that a safe statement would be that pest control can be effective at reducing pest risk. If it were not then it seems rather unlikely that as an industry it would continue to experience the growth it currently does. More than that though, it would not be so prevalent among public use. Being an active participant in a preventative pest treatment program should kill a lot of bugs, rodents, and every other unwanted creepy crawly.
