Do mice give you the heebie-jeebies? If yes, then you’re not alone. Although rodents can look cute when put in a cage or even when featured in movies, most people aren’t fans of them. The truth is, if left unchecked, mice and rats can cause great damage to your property. So when rodents invade your personal space, getting rid of them is usually the first thing we want to do.

Their notorious reputation, however, doesn’t make them any less interesting and they can be quite fascinating. So here are 6 interesting things we found about mice that are worth sharing:

  1. Mice teeth don’t stop growing

Imagine having a set of incisors that are always growing. Well, that’s mice and many other rodents for you. With a growth rate of about 0.3mm daily, mice have to do some grinding work to keep their teeth trimmed to a comfortable length. They resort to gnawing and chewing on items such as furniture, wires, cardboard boxes, to get it done.

2. Mice have Daredevil abilities

If you are a Daredevil fan, you’ve probably seen the Netflix show or come across comic books. The superhero has heightened senses that make up for his lack of sight. Mice aren’t that much different from the Marvel superhero. To make up for their poor vision, they turn to their heightened senses of touch, hearing, and smell to survive.

3. Mice have superb hearing

When compared to human hearing, mice seem to fare better. These crawlies have the ability to hear ultrasound up to 90 kHz. But that’s not all as they can also serenade each other and communicate using ultrasound.

4. Mice hate the cold

We all hate when it gets chilly and mice do as well. So as it starts to get cold, especially during the winter months, these rodents will find ways to get into your home and business space in search of warmth. Preferably, they will settle in homes where they have access to lots of food.

5. Mice can get through the tiniest of gaps

Mice can literally flatten out their bodies, giving them the ability to get through very tiny gaps. Mice will even squeeze through spaces as small as the size of a pencil (6mm).

6. Mice are amazing at high jumps

When it comes to scaling incredible heights, mice perform pretty well in that category. The average size of a mouse can be anywhere from 3 cm. to 10 cm. And even with that size, mice can jump as high as 25 cm which is super-impressive!

Regardless of how fascinating rodents can be, having them in your home or at your business place puts you and everyone else at risk. That’s because these crawlies can spread really bad diseases.
